June 30, 2009
HERITAGE PARK - RANCHO CUCAMONGA

The Vineyard All-Star team finally got things going in the bottom of the 3rd inning of their 2nd pool play game of the 2009 all-star season. The boys were trailing 2 - 0 after having gotten out of jams in the first three innings of play.

That's when Dakota Oberhauser, Niko Navarro and Jonathan Olsen hit BACK to BACK to BACK HOME RUNS to give Vineyard a 3-2 lead and the boys never looked back. The offensive explosion led to a 5-run 3rd inning and 6-run 4th inning as the Vineyard team earned a solid 11-4 victory over a feisty Fontana club.

Dakota Oberhauser and Eric Perez each pitched 3 solid innings for Vineyard. They limited the Fontana team to six hits on the night while striking out 8 batters.

Offensively, Niko Navarro and Jonathan Olsen led the way for Vineyard as they each went 3 for 4 with a HOME RUN. Eric Perez joined in with two hits. Dakota Oberhasuer and Gio Villanueva had hits on the night along with a walk apiece. Jason Bennett, Nick Schwetz and Ayden Cuan all took one for the team as they reached base when hit-by-a-pitch. Jeremy Baker also earned a base on balls.

Very good victory boys - you are headed in the right direction to defend your District 71 title!!!

Vineyard's quest to defend their District 71 Championship gets off on wrong foot...
6/27/09 @ Heritage Park in Rancho Cucamonga

The Vineyard Major All-Star team began their quest to defend their Distrcit 71 Championship Saturday evening. The boys came out firing by being extremely aggressive on the base paths. They were able to manufacture 2 runs in the top of the 1st for a quick 2-0 lead.

Dakota Oberhauser got things going by beating out an infield single. He then took 2nd on a line drive single to left by Niko Navarro. Dakota then stole 3rd and came home when the throw from the catcher went into left field. Niko then stole 3rd on a delay steal & when the pitcher attempted to throw Niko out at 3rd, the throw hit Niko on the knee and bounced toward the dugout which allowed him to get up & score Vineyard's 2nd run of the inning. That was all Vineyard would score on the night as base running errors helped Deer Canyon get out of a one out 1st & 3rd jam in the 3rd inning. After that, the Deer Canyon left-handed hurler struck out the side each of the last 3 innings.

Vineyard did not play catch well which led to 2 unearned Deer Canyon runs. Deer Canyon got a one-out walk in the bottom of the 6th and then got a clutch hit to right center from one of their substitute players. The runner on 1st came all the way around to score the winning run as the cut-off throw was off target and Vineyard was unable to make a play at the plate.

The boys know they let one slip away but remain confident they will play better in the games to come and may get another crack at Deer Canyon if they are able to advance to the Championship.

Keep swinging boys & play better catch. Good things will come!
